Practitioner Teacher Training

Content

The Practitioner Teacher Training course offers a thorough grounding in the basic elements of yoga practice such as asana, pranayama and meditation appropriate for teaching group classes in a modern context. We will study the Yoga Sutra and other key texts such as the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika. The study material will be directly linked to practical application, bringing the theory alive. We will also engage with anatomy and physiology, professional teaching and the history of yoga. The course will provide a strong foundation in the teachings of Krishnamacharya through a non-dogmatic and open approach.

Tutors

The course will be run principally by Hanne Gillespie who has been a teacher and student of yoga over the last 25 years. She will be working in close communication with her colleagues Ranju Roy and Dave Chalton (Sadhana Mala) who have researched and compiled the material which will be used. Ranju and Dave will come to Ireland to teach some of the subjects. Anatomy and Physiology will be taught by Lisa Peterson who is an established international yoga teacher living in Ireland.

The course is accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) and recognised by the Association for Yoga Studies (aYs)

Sadhana is a Sanskrit word which means spiritual practice; it is the means of moving from where we are now to a new place of greater understanding and fulfilment. It requires effort and intention. Any practice, or indeed action, taken with right intention and attitude, could be considered sadhana

Mala is also a Sanskrit word which has many meanings; it is a collection of beads on a thread which is used as a meditation aid to remind us to be present and awake. It is also a garland and a offering.
